The Beat of the Drum; the Rhythm of Life
There are videos on the internet that I’ve watched and been amazed by the talent shown by ordinary people in Guana, not members of organized musical groups, play their drums together, or singly, for all types of ceremonies, dances, or just for the pleasure of enjoying the rhythm. The rhythm, the beat, that magical sensation provided by the sounds of world drums. It gets to your heart, it is the rhythm of life. Now, I own a djembe from Guana. Beautiful instrument. I learn the different types of hand slaps and beats from others who are much more knowledgeable than I. But still, even the beginner that I am, I feel it in my heart, my soul, the beat of the drum, the rhythm of life.
