A development of swollen gums to periodontal disease

There are many factors that cause the gums to swell and this is the common cause of swelling when food particles are stuck between the gum line and plaque. When we forget to clean our teeth or we are just being lazy to brush and floss, we cannot ignore the disgusting smell of the mouth early in the morning. This is the start of acquiring gum disease and we may feel the pain in the gums along the way of the progression of the disease. Even with proper oral hygiene habit we cannot avoid the occurrence of swollen gums how much more when a person lacks oral hygiene. Plaques are the cause of gum inflammations. When swollen gums are neglected it may develop to periodontal disease which may affect other medical conditions and body systems such as the heart attack and stroke. Swollen gums can be prevented but oral hygiene and a regular visit to the dentist should be done. Every after meal it is recommended to make a habit of regular brushing and flossing.
